Western Sydney International Airport: What Travellers Need to Know About Transfers
Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport, known as WSI, opens for passenger services on 25 October 2026.
For travellers across Greater Sydney, the new airport introduces another option for domestic and international flights, but it also means one important change when arranging transport:
“Sydney Airport” will no longer always mean the same place.
If you are flying through WSI, here is what to know before arranging your airport transfer.

1. WSI and Sydney Airport are two different airports
Western Sydney International Airport is located at:
40 Nancy Drive, Luddenham NSW 2745
It is separate from Sydney Airport at Mascot.
Before booking a transfer, always check the airport code shown on your itinerary:
WSI = Western Sydney International Airport
SYD = Sydney Airport at Mascot
This is particularly important when someone else is arranging your travel, such as an executive assistant, hotel, event organiser or family member.
A simple airport-code check can prevent a very inconvenient transport mistake.
WSI says more than 65% of Sydney suburbs are within a 45-minute drive of the airport, although actual travel times will naturally depend on location and traffic conditions.
2. Private chauffeur pickups have a dedicated area
Western Sydney International has designed separate areas for different types of ground transport.
Booked chauffeur and limousine services will use a dedicated commercial pickup area within P1, close to the passenger terminal.
Operators providing these services must also be registered with WSI before operating at the airport.
For travellers booking a private transfer in advance, this provides a defined pickup point rather than needing to work out transport after leaving the terminal.
3. Give your chauffeur your flight number
A flight landing at 8:00 am does not necessarily mean a passenger will be ready for pickup at 8:00 am.
After landing, travellers may still need to:
- Disembark
- Collect checked luggage
- Complete immigration and border processing for international arrivals
- Make their way through the terminal
- Reach the designated pickup area
When arranging your transfer, providing the flight number gives your chauffeur much better information than simply providing an estimated arrival time.
It also makes it easier to plan around changes to the flight schedule.
4. Think about luggage before choosing the vehicle
Passenger numbers are only one part of airport transport.
Four people travelling domestically with small bags have very different requirements from four international travellers carrying several large suitcases and cabin bags.
Before arranging your transfer, consider:
- Number of passengers
- Number of large suitcases
- Cabin bags
- Prams or mobility equipment
- Business or event equipment
- Any additional stops after the airport
For families, business travellers and small groups, a Mercedes-Benz V-Class can provide a practical balance of passenger comfort and luggage space.
For larger groups or luggage-heavy journeys, additional vehicle capacity may be more comfortable than trying to use every available passenger seat.
5. Plan beyond the airport
Your airport transfer may only be the first part of the journey.
A business traveller might need:
WSI → Hotel → Meeting → Dinner
A family might need:
WSI → Accommodation → Event
A visiting team might require:
WSI → Hotel → Conference Venue
If several movements are already known, planning them together can reduce the number of separate bookings and pickup arrangements throughout the day.
Pepi’s Concierge also provides private chauffeur travel across Sydney for multi-stop and as-directed journeys.
6. WSI operates 24 hours a day
Western Sydney International is Sydney's only 24/7 international airport, with domestic, international and cargo operations able to operate around the clock.
That means travellers may increasingly need transport for:
- Early morning departures
- Late-night arrivals
- International flights
- Business travel outside traditional hours
- Connecting journeys across Greater Sydney
For flights at less conventional times, arranging transport before the travel day can make the airport journey considerably simpler.
Getting to and from Western Sydney International Airport
WSI has been designed with several ground transport options, including buses, taxis, rideshare, private transfers, car rental and onsite parking.
The airport also has direct road access via the new M12 motorway, which WSI describes as toll-free.
The best transport option will depend on where you are travelling, how many passengers are in your group, how much luggage you have and what happens after you leave the airport.
For travellers who prefer the journey to be arranged in advance, a pre-booked private chauffeur can provide a direct connection between WSI and your next destination.
Plan your WSI journey before you fly
The opening of Western Sydney International Airport gives Sydney travellers another major gateway, but it also makes accurate travel planning more important.
Before booking your transfer, confirm:
- Your airport code
- Flight number
- Passenger numbers
- Luggage requirements
- Destination
- Any additional stops
